I had always heard about how fast kids grow up, but until I was a parent myself it really didn’t sink in. As a kid, the only thing I wanted was to get older, be able to drive, and indulge in an adult beverage or two. Meanwhile, my mom was having a hard time letting me go. She couldn’t even drop me off at college because of how hard it was for her. At the time, it was difficult to understand. Now as a parent, I get it. My kids grow up way faster than I would like. It seems like every couple months they’re on to conquering something new. Their beloved stuffies get tossed aside and I end up with more attachment to their stuffies than they do.
It’s hard watching your kids change, but it’s also SO exciting and makes me feel incredibly proud and in awe of my girls. While they’ve been changing, I’ve been documenting little moments throughout their childhood that I want to remember. I hope these ideas get your wheels turning and you can begin to generate some ideas of photos to take of your kids before they get any older!
10 Ideas For Documenting Your Kids At Home
Baby or Toddler Grabbing Their Feet
This is always one of my favorite milestones to capture – baby (or toddler in this case) grabbing onto their own feet.

Hiding in Mom and Dad’s Closet

Favorite Toys
My girls have had many favorite toys over the years. Some live on, but some are short lived. I love being able to look back and remember what their favorites were!

Arts and Crafts
It’s okay to be messy sometimes! Embrace the mess and snap some photos of them exploring new tactile adventures like painting.

Favorite Stuffies

Playing Outside
There are so many things to document when your kids play outside. Some of my favorites are bubbles, climbing playgrounds, sliding down slides, and running around. Capturing the joy they have when playing outside is a favorite of mine!

Swinging
This is a great one to capture year after year and watch them grow!

Milestones (Growing out of their crib, Crawling, etc.)
Someday you’re going to want to remember just how little they were in their crib. Make sure to snap a picture of them standing in it when they’re able to. This stage goes by so fast!

Getting Into Everything Stage
I’m sure moms and dads can relate to the stage where baby gets into everything. Baby proofing a house is definitely a task. It can also make for some really fun moments.

Baby In Their Carseat
Another stage that is so short in hindsight. Make sure to grab a photo of your baby in their carseat!

There are so many moments as a parent that I want to remember. Sometimes just remembering to even take the photos of your kids can be difficult. Give yourself grace if you don’t have it all documented. Know that it’s okay to start right now and go take a couple photos of your kids doing things they love. Your future self will thank you!
